This Cookie Policy explains how Hannibal General Trading - L.L.C - S.P.C (Registry No. 6158841), operating the Swappo platform (swappo.ae), uses cookies and similar technologies.
1. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device (computer, smartphone, tablet) when you visit a website or app. Cookies contain information that can be read by the website/app that created them. They are used to remember your preferences, track your activity, and enhance your user experience.
Cookies are not programs and cannot transmit viruses or access files on your device. They are harmless and widely used on the internet.
2. Types of Cookies Used by Swappo
2.1 Essential (Strictly Necessary) Cookies
These cookies are required for Swappo to function correctly. They cannot be disabled without breaking the app.
- Session Authentication:
auth_token — Stores your login session. Expires when you log out or after 30 days of inactivity. Required to keep you logged in.
- Language Preference:
language_preference — Remembers your selected language (English/Arabic/Français/Urdu). Persists for 1 year.
- CSRF Protection:
csrf_token — Prevents cross-site request forgery attacks. Session-based.
- PWA Cache State:
pwa_offline_mode — Tracks PWA offline functionality and cached data for mobile app use.
Legal basis: Necessary for service delivery (contract). Cannot be disabled.
2.2 Functional Cookies
These cookies improve your experience by remembering your preferences and behavior on Swappo.
- Search Preferences:
search_radius (default 5km), search_category_filters — Remembers your last search settings. Expires 30 days.
- Location Preference:
gps_permission_status — Tracks whether you've granted GPS location permission. Persists until revoked.
- Last Viewed Items:
recently_viewed — Stores the last 10 items you clicked on. Expires 7 days.
- UI Preferences:
dark_mode (on/off), font_size — Remembers dark mode and accessibility settings. Persists for 1 year.
- Notification Preference:
push_notification_permission — Tracks if you've enabled push notifications.
Legal basis: Legitimate interest + consent. Can be disabled in Privacy Preferences.
2.3 Analytics & Performance Cookies
These cookies help us understand how Swappo is used, which pages are popular, and where we can improve.
- Google Analytics:
_ga, _gid, _gat — Tracks page views, user journeys, session duration, feature usage. Anonymized and aggregated. Expires 2 years.
- Custom Analytics:
session_id, user_cohort — Tracks feature A/B tests and conversion funnels. Expires 1 year.
- Performance Monitoring:
page_load_time, crash_reports — Collects crash logs and page performance data to identify bugs.
Legal basis: Legitimate interest + consent. Can be disabled in Privacy Preferences.
2.4 Advertising Cookies (Currently Not Used)
Swappo does not currently use advertising/tracking cookies from Facebook, Google Ads, or other ad networks. If Swappo introduces sponsored listings or ads in the future, we will update this policy and ask for consent.
3. Third-Party Cookies & Services
3.1 Font Awesome CDN
- Purpose: Displays icons throughout Swappo (handshake logo, category icons, etc.)
- Cookies: None (Font Awesome is a static CDN, does not set cookies)
3.2 Google Fonts
- Purpose: Serves the Inter typeface used throughout Swappo
- Cookies: Google Fonts does not set tracking cookies, but Google may collect usage data via your IP address
3.3 Stripe (Payment Processor)
- Purpose: Processes subscription payments securely
- Cookies: Stripe may set session cookies for fraud prevention and payment security
3.4 Supabase (Cloud Database)
- Purpose: Stores all user data, listings, and chat messages
- Cookies: Supabase sets authentication tokens and session cookies
3.5 Google Vision / AWS Rekognition (AI Content Moderation)
- Purpose: Analyzes uploaded photos to detect prohibited content (weapons, nudity, drugs)
- Cookies: None (API-based, not cookie-based)
4. Cookie Duration
- Session Cookies: Deleted when you close your browser or app (e.g., auth_token, csrf_token)
- Persistent Cookies: Stored on your device for a specified period (7 days, 30 days, 1 year, etc.)
- Authentication Cookies: Persist until you manually log out or 30 days of inactivity
5. How to Control & Delete Cookies
5.1 Browser Cookie Settings
You can control cookies using your browser's settings:
Chrome / Edge:
- Click three dots (menu) → Settings
- Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Allow, block, or delete specific cookies
Firefox:
- Hamburger menu → Preferences
- Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Choose "Only at logout" or manage exceptions
Safari (Mac/iOS):
- Settings → Privacy
- Manage website data or block cookies by default
5.2 Swappo Cookie Consent Banner
When you first visit Swappo, a cookie consent banner appears at the bottom of the screen with options:
- Accept All: Accepts all cookies (essential + functional + analytics)
- Decline: Rejects non-essential cookies (only essential cookies are set)
- Manage Preferences: Opens detailed cookie controls where you can enable/disable specific categories
5.3 In-App Privacy Controls
Navigate to Settings → Privacy & Permissions to manage:
- GPS location tracking
- Push notifications
- Analytics cookies
- Functional cookies
5.4 Do Not Track (DNT)
Some browsers have a "Do Not Track" feature. If you enable DNT, Swappo respects this signal and disables analytics cookies (but essential cookies remain active).
6. Impact of Disabling Cookies
6.1 Essential Cookies (Cannot Be Disabled)
- Disabling essential cookies WILL break Swappo functionality
- You will not be able to log in, view listings, or use the app
- We recommend never disabling essential cookies
6.2 Functional & Analytics Cookies (Can Be Disabled)
- Swappo will still work, but with reduced functionality
- Your search preferences won't be saved (you'll have to set filters each time)
- Last viewed items won't be remembered
- We won't receive analytics data (this doesn't affect your experience, only our ability to improve the app)
- UI preferences (dark mode, language) may not persist between sessions
7. Cookie Consent & Opt-In/Opt-Out
7.1 First Visit
On your first visit to Swappo, a cookie consent banner appears with three options. Your choice is saved in cookie_consent (persistent for 1 year).
7.2 Changing Your Preferences Later
You can change your cookie preferences anytime:
- Click the cookie icon in the footer (if visible)
- Go to Settings → Privacy → Cookie Preferences
- Email privacy@swappo.ae to request changes
7.3 Legal Basis
- Essential Cookies: Necessary for service (no consent required, but you can't disable)
- Functional & Analytics: Require explicit consent (opt-in or pre-consent via banner)
- Withdrawal of Consent: You can withdraw consent anytime via Privacy Settings
8. Cookies & Privacy Rights
Cookies may contain information that could identify you. For information on how Swappo processes data collected via cookies, see our Privacy Policy. You have the right to:
- Request access to data collected via cookies
- Delete cookies and associated data
- Opt out of certain cookie types
- Request data portability

9. Changes to Cookie Policy
Swappo may update this Cookie Policy when:
- New third-party services are integrated (e.g., ad networks, analytics tools)
- Cookie types or purposes change
